practice

how the work is held.

1

we sit on the ground floor

we learn your process and your nomenclature before we offer a word of our own. a recommendation in someone else's vocabulary is a guess wearing a suit.

we flip the table and sit on the floor. there is no head of a floor.

2

the art is ergonomics

a workflow is a tool held by a person for hours at a time.

ergonomics: the fit between the tool and the hand. bad fit is not a preference, it is an injury on a long enough timeline.

we ask what the work feels like at hour six, not what it looks like in the diagram.

3

read only, until you say otherwise

nothing is changed in your works while we are still learning them. the first thing we earn is the right to touch something.

4

time boxed, always

investigations end on a date we said out loud before we started. an open ended investigation is a subscription to our confusion.

never by the hour — the hour is the wrong unit when the job is to need us less.

5

no vendor margin

we do not resell tooling. we hold no margin on anything we name, so the recommendation is the recommendation.

foss first. proprietary only where it is justified out loud.
